Let’s talk about the grass and the price of chicken and whether I saw the game yesterday. Or not. I’m good either way.

It was normal. It was natural. It was perfect. That’s the truth.

OK. Great. Now I have to fight this guy and the ice cream is going to melt.

For the parent to a non-verbal child, social pleasantries can take on a different feel. They may be social, but they aren’t pleasant.
