Surviving A Meltdown

We walked into the crowded and cramped waiting area. That’s when my son had a meltdown.

It’s easy to be so fixated on one specific victory that we miss all the other ones happening around us.

I had to force myself to see the worst of him, even though I usually can only see the best.

What followed was a barrage of sad heart emojis mixed with the occasional, “Stay Strong, Mama”.

There are some days when I am in awe of his nerve.

He’ll get it. I know he will. He’s done it before. He’ll do it again.

It’s our favorite trip. Other people might not get it, but we do.

Autism doesn’t make my son the best boy in the world. The fact that he’s mine makes him the best boy in the world.

When it comes to meetings like this, it’s about helping my child. I’m here for him.

I don’t want to live my life angry and, just because I have kids, it doesn’t mean I have to.
